CJEO determines whether to issue judicial ethics guidance by considering all requests for opinions or advice from judicial officers, candidates for judicial office, members of the public (who may only suggest topics for formal opinions), and representatives of an entity (same).
Please note that the committee considers all suggestions for opinions but has the discretion to determine whether or not to issue an opinion and the form of any opinion or advice it provides. (Cal. Rules of Court, rule 9.80(i)(1); CJEO rules 6(a) & 7(a).)
Requests for an opinion or suggestions for a topic, including the requester's name and identifying information, will be maintained as confidential by CJEO and will not be disclosed in any publication.
